Why & How to Get Physical Therapy

Have you wondered Why you would want to see a physical therapist or How you can get started?

Why see a PT?

  1. Injury Rehabilitation: If you’ve had an injury, such as a sprain, strain, or fracture, a physical therapist can help you recover and regain strength, flexibility, and range of motion.
  2. Chronic Pain: Physical therapists can assist in managing chronic pain conditions, such as arthritis, fibromyalgia and CRPS, by designing personalized exercise programs, providing manual therapy, and teaching pain management techniques.
  3. Post-Surgery Recovery: After undergoing surgery, physical therapy can aid in restoring function and mobility, reducing swelling, and preventing complications like blood clots and contractures. Physical therapists can guide you through a safe and effective recovery process, getting back to your previous lifestyle.
  4. Balance and Fall Prevention: If you have balance issues or a fear of falling, a physical therapist can develop exercises and strategies to improve your balance, coordination, and stability, reducing the risk of falls.
  5. Chronic Health Conditions: Physical therapists can assist in managing conditions like diabetes, heart disease, obesity, or respiratory disorders by designing appropriate exercise programs to improve overall health and fitness levels.
  6. Specialized Care: Now more than ever, physical therapists are becoming more specialized and better trained to treat your specific concerns. At Lifestyle Physical Therapy we have therapists that are Board Certified in Orthopedics and specialize in chronic pain, pelvic health, manual therapy, dry needling, and many other treatment techniques.

How to see a PT:

  1. Contact your Physical Therapists Office: Reach out to your PT’s office, have your insurance information handy and they will guide you through the scheduling process and oftentimes you do not need a physician referral to start physical therapy.
  2. Ask to talk with a physical therapist before coming in! At LPT we would be happy to provide a free consultation either on the phone or in person to determine if/what approach to PT is best for you.
  3. Initial Evaluation: During your first appointment, a physical therapist will perform an initial evaluation to assess your condition, discuss your symptoms and goals, and develop a personalized treatment plan that suits you.
  4. Follow the Treatment Plan: Follow the recommended treatment plan provided by your physical therapist. Attend scheduled sessions and communicate any concerns or changes in your condition during the treatment process.

Remember, early intervention and seeking the expertise of a Physical Therapist will help address your concerns, improve your physical abilities, and promote overall well-being.
